Venturing Crew 67 is a co-ed group of 14-20 year olds in Longmont, Colorado who are committed to learning, leading, and serving together through adventures large and small. Adventures range from bowling and karaoke nights to competitive robotics teams to 8- to 14-day trips and everything in between!

What is Venturing?
Venturing is a youth-led program all about building adventures with your friends. Choose to do activities that matter to you and develop essential skills like leadership, event-planning, organization, communication, and responsibility while having a blast! Venturing empowers you to create your own experiences while bringing Scouting values to life through high adventure outdoor activities and challenging real-world projects.
Venturing teaches youth essential skills using the ALPS model. ALPS stands for Adventure, Leadership, Personal Growth, and Service.
Adventure is the key to Venturing, and developing outings with a sense of adventure is the key to the crew having fun and learning something new about themselves. As a Venturer, not only will you participate in outings and adventures, but you will also lead them. As your leadership skills develop, you will become a mentor to other Venturers as they take on the role of leading an adventure or activity. What the adventure looks like is up to you and the crew.
Leadership is the tool you will use as you help the crew plan its adventures. As a Venturer, you will learn to lead the crew through the adventures of their choice. Leadership in Venturing is not just a position— it is an action, captured in the Venturing motto, “Lead the Adventure”. Even as you begin your Venturing experience, you learn leadership skills by observing crew officers and more experienced members of the crew as they lead the adventure.
Personal Growth comes when you learn from your experiences as a Venturer. Conversations with crew members and your Advisor will help you appreciate what you have learned. Personal growth helps you identify and develop your talents and abilities so you can be prepared for life’s challenges and opportunities.
Service is the gift we give to others. It allows us to sustain our communities by identifying needs and targeting them. Venturing’s commitment to community service will allow your crew to develop a program full of opportunities to serve others—and to have fun while doing so!
Who is Venturing for?
Venturing is open to any youth age 14-20 (or age 13 if they have completed the 8th grade). Whether you’ve been in some form of Scouting since Kindergarten or you’ve never attended a Scouting event, you have a place in Venturing. Scouts who have obtained First Class but no longer want to participate in a Troop can continue to work toward Eagle while in a Venturing Crew. For Scouts who want to be in both a Troop and a Crew, elected leadership positions on a Venturing Crew count toward Troop rank advancement requirements. Importantly, youth who are already registered with a Troop or Ship can “multiple register” in a Crew for no additional cost.
What kinds of Adventures does Crew 67 take?
If you can imagine it, plan it, and fund it, almost any adventure is possible! Each year, Crew 67 plans and enjoys three tiers of adventures:
Tier 1 Adventures are short adventures that take minimal planning and preparation like bowling, glassblowing lessons, a hike, or a trip to a museum or show. The crew typically plans a Tier 1 Adventure every month.
Tier 2 Adventures require more planning and can last up to three days. Examples include our annual Zombie Run (which doubles as a fundraiser), a weekend camping or climbing trip, or running a local robotics tournament. The crew typically plans a Tier 2 Adventure four times each year.
Tier 3 Adventures require extensive planning, preparation, and skills development, and they last at least four days. Every year, Crew 67 participates in a High Adventure program (Philmont, Northern Tier, The Summit, or Sea Base) as a Tier 3 Adventure, and our goal is to add a second Tier 3 Adventure (e.g., an international trip) at least every other year.
Check out our High Adventures and Local Adventures pages for more information on upcoming adventures.
Can I check out an Adventure before deciding whether to join?
Of course! Crew 67 welcomes anyone age 14-20 to participate in a Tier 1 adventure to meet the Crew and learn more about Venturing. You are also welcome to attend one of our regular meetings where part of the time is devoted to Adventure planning, and part of the time is devoted to having fun. Parents are also welcome to attend. Note that some Adventures may have a fee, and some Adventures may require a release form. If you have questions about an upcoming adventure, send us an email.
